Photoshop for Videographers and Filmmakers With Gerry Katzban designer and motion graphics artist

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 6:30 – 9:30 pm

No matter what program you edit video with, Photoshop is your number one tool for creating and improving graphics and photos, adding value to your project, and saving you time during the edit. Plus it integrates easily with most editing software. This workshop will cover techniques on bringing graphics into the editing environment: graphic formats, pixel aspect ratios, preserving transparency and creating alpha channels, creating graphics for DV/D1/HD, title and action safety guides, testing and exporting to video, and choosing the correct export format and compression. Examples will be shown integrating Final Cut Pro and Adobe After Effects. The presenter will expect that you have some familiarity with the basics of video editing. Fee $45.00, PEP-221.

UNEXPECTED DETAILS Light, Form and Color in Twenty-first Century Japan

October 21 – November 22, 2008 Opening Reception: Tuesday October 21, 5:30 pm – 7 pm Artist’s Gallery Talk 6:30 pm

Describing his buildings, the German architect Mies van der Rohe famously stated “God is in the Details”. In a similar way, I believe that an understanding of the spirit of Japan and its culture can be found in the details of the Japanese physical environment with its curious mixture of an overpowering cacophony of visual stimuli and the delicate precision of exquisite design. In my travels in Japan I’m constantly pulled to photograph these things. I find myself looking up to note the precise lighting pattern in a hotel lobby, down to the illustrated manhole covers beneath my feet, and pausing before both the serene gray wall of an Ando building and the fluorescent blare of Akihabara. The images in the exhibition were captured in Japan over the past few years with a series of Nikon digital SLR cameras, and printed on a variety of media using Epson and HP inkjet printers.
