Artist’s Gallery Talk: 6:30Nails In The Key Of Life is a collection of paintings, prints, sculptures, and video by Dutchess County-based artist Breanne Trammell. This new body of work is inspired by and extracted from her experience attending nail school to become a NY state-licensed nail technician. Breanne is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Wassaic, NY. She is an active member of the Wassaic Project where she is Print Fellow. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally, including Mixed Greens Gallery, PPOW Gallery, Susan Inglett Gallery, and MASS MoCA. She received her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008, has been a Lecturer in Art+Design at SUNY Purchase, and a faculty member at Ramapo College of NJ since 2009.

Marcy B. Freedman

An Installation & A Series of Interactive Performances

October 18 – December 1

Opening Reception: Thursday, October 18, 5:30 – 7:30 pm

Artist’s Gallery Talk: 6:30

Please Call for Performance Times: 606-7304

Marcy B. Freedman will confront the issue of contemporary consumerism with an installation and a series of interactive performances at the Peekskill Center for the Digital Arts.  Her project involves the display of dozens and dozens of shopping bags, each with its logo in plain view.  These bags, filled with desirable items, will be given away to those individuals willing to converse with the artist during one of her performances.  The artist explains her intentions as follows:

“I am interested in exploring our complex relationship with the highly manipulative worlds of advertising and retail sales.  The title of this project is intended to suggest – among other things – that we are controlled by the materialism of our culture.”

Additionally, this work is representative of Freedman’s recent performance work, because it involves one-on-one, face-to-face encounters with members of the public.  She is committed to this direct engagement with her audience because she wants to provide an alternative to the “virtual” forms of communication — email, texting, social networking, etc – that are coming to dominate our interpersonal experiences.  “I want to create situations in which real people are together in real time and in real space.”
